Kenyan educator, philanthropist, and grandmother to Barack Obama passed away on March 29th at 99 years old. The matriarch was highly respected in her community where she helped orphans by providing school supplies, housing, uniforms, and school fees. Former U.S. President, Barack Obama, was unable to attend her Tuesday burial but remembered her fondly.

 “ When I first traveled to Kenya to learn more about my heritage and father, who had passed away by then, it was Granny who served as a bridge to the past, and it was her stories that helped fill a void in my heart”, he wrote.

Kiambaa MP, Paul Koinange, died last Wednesday morning while receiving treatment at Nairobi hospital. He was 69 years old. Koinange is remembered as a steadfast leader who chaired the National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Administration and National Security. 

“The cruel hand of death has robbed us of a steadfast leader. A leader and gentleman whose undivided focus was the peace, stability, and progress of our country” said the President in a statement.

Christians around the world celebrated Good Friday this week. In Kenya, celebrations were limited under new lockdown restrictions implemented more than a week ago.

Saweetie, a 27-year-old U.S.-based rapper, opened up about the end of her relationship with Migos member, Quavo, last week. 

“I’m single. I’ve endured too much betrayal and hurt behind the scenes for a false narrative to be circulating that degrades my character…Excited for this new chapter of elevation.” said Saweetie.

Quavo later responded in a tweet saying: 

 “I know you want to make this into a show so I’ll play my part just this one time…I had love for you and disappointed you did all that. You are not the woman I thought you were. I wish you nothing but the best.”
