It was a busy week for Kenya’s netizens. While many were curious about Uganda’s elections, others also had thoughts about supermodel Naomi Campbell’s visit to Kenya and Micheal B. Jordan’s new girlfriend.

  1. Uganda Elections 200K+ 

Uganda’s polls opened and closed last Thursday. In the highly anticipated election, long-term president Yoweri Museveni ran against opposition leader Bobi Wine. In the run up to the polls, Uganda’s communications regulator ordered a suspension of internet gateways “until further notice”. On Saturday, the nation’s Electoral Commission announced Museveni’s victory with 58.64% of the vote.

  1. Trump Impeachment 20K+

The U.S. House of Representatives voted 232 to 197 on Wednesday to impeach outgoing President Donald Trump. Trump faces trial in the Senate amid claims of inciting a group of terrorists that stormed the U.S. capital building on January 6th. U.S. Republicans in Congress are divided over the decision. 10 Republicans have split with their party to impeach trump.

  1. Anne Kananu 20K+

Nairobi County Assembly approved Anne Kananu’s deputy governor nomination on Friday, last week. Kanau served as County Chief Officer for Disaster Management and Coordination for two years and a security supervisor in charge of quality control and training at the Kenya Airports Authority for 13 years. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminology and Security Management from Dedan Kimathi University. Her nomination was not without difficulty. The high court initially barred her vetting after Peter Odhiambo Agoro filed a petition claiming former mayor Mike Sonko did not have the right to make the nomination while being barred from office. Kananu is set to take over the governor’s office until the new elections in 2022.

  1. Naomi Campbell 20K+

Supermodel Naomi Campbell was appointed “Magical Kenya International Tourism ambassador” last Tuesday. Her new role will involve promoting and marketing Kenya as an ideal tourism destination. The model has been visiting Malindi since December 2020. During her trip, she praised upgrades made to Malindi airport and improved infrastructure. 

While many celebrated Campbell and her love of Kenya, not all Kenyans are in favor of her new role. Some asked why the position was not given to a famous Kenyan.

  1. Lori Harvey 10K+

Black Panther star Micheal B. Jordan is officially taken. He announced his relationship with influencer Lori Harvey last week. Harvey is the 24-year-old stepdaughter of comedian Steve Harvey. Previously, Lori Harvey has dated U.S. rapper Future and music mogul P. Diddy.
